Heritage Community Foundation Presents Grant to Henry County School’s Academy for Advanced Studies

Jonesboro, Ga. (December 11, 2015) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a grant to Mr. John Uesseler, CEO/Principal of the Academy for Advanced Studies (AAS): The Henry County College and Career Academy, on October 27, 2015. The $1500 grant was given in conjunction with a luncheon hosted by the Heritage Community Foundation (HCF) at the Academy on that same day. The purpose of the luncheon was to introduce community leaders to HCF and to invite them to join in and support HCF in its efforts to provide assistance to local non-profit organizations. The luncheon also helped make the community leaders more aware of the work being done at the AAS. Students from the AAS’s Culinary Arts program showcased their talents by preparing and serving an incredible lunch for the attendees.

The Academy for Advanced Studies was founded in Fall of 2009, and its mission is to ensure each student graduates high school with the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary for college and career success. In fulfilling this mission, AAS ensures each student is actively engaged in rigorous, relevant and innovative instructional programs. AAS produces multiple benefits for students, employers and the community-at-large, including increased high school graduation and college enrollment rates, higher levels of academic attainment, stronger preparation for high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand careers, and greater potential for local economic development. The purpose of AAS is to expand the education opportunities of students around Henry County; therefore, programs offered for students at AAS are not available at the home high school. These program offerings include access to collegiate level dual enrollment programs, specialized CTAE pathways, advanced placement courses, and other necessary academic programs of study.
