Jonesboro, Ga. (June 28, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $4,000 grant to Jennifer Newman, Administrative Director of Operation Lunchbox., for resources to help feed homeless school-age children over the summer.

“We learned that there are over 1,200 homeless students attending Henry County schools”, said Mark Dose, Executive Director of the Heritage Community Foundation. “Operation Lunchbox provides a significant resource to help feed these children over the summer months when they do not have access to the school system’s breakfast and lunch program. Operation Lunchbox is structured to provide a bag of non-perishable groceries once a week during the 8 weeks of summer break so these students have a routine supply of food to eat. This grant provides resources so they can continue to meet the needs of these homeless children in our area”.

“Haven House is an important resource in our community”, said Jenny Smith, Past President and Board Member of the Heritage Community Foundation. “They provide a year-round domestic violence shelter along with 24-hour emergency help along with counseling, financial counseling and legal services. These funds will purchase new computers to help with the facility operations as well as assist those living at the shelter. We recognize the valuable services Haven House provides and are glad we can partner with them to provide new computers”.

Jonesboro, Ga. (June 28, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $2,500 grant to Dr. Denise Colson, Executive Director of Eagle’s Landing Christian Counseling Center for the purchase of new computers for the organization’s new electronic health record system. ELCCC is committed to connecting wounded people to God’s grace and provides professional mental health services and addiction care that is rooted in Biblical truth and grace. The computer upgrade will allow the organization to optimize the benefits of the electronic health record used in the care of their patients.

“We are excited to partner with Eagle’s Landing Christian Counseling Center by providing resources for this computer upgrade” said Mark Dose, Executive Director of the Heritage Community Foundation. “The counseling center has already helped so many people in our community and this new equipment will help them as their case-load and staff continues to grow. (June 1, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $2,500 grant to Mike Conoway, Board President of the Healing Bridge Clinic, for the purchase of diabetic testing supplies for Healing Bridge Clinic patients. This grant supports the group’s mission of providing free primary healthcare to uninsured or under-insured patients in the area.

Jonesboro, Ga. (May 30, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $2,500 grant to Marla Brown, CEO of Pregnancy Aid Clinic in Forest Park, Georgia to fund a program focused on providing prevention education and decreasing sexually transmitted infections among 18 to 25 year olds.

“We have seen reports noting the increase in sexually transmitted infections among young adults in Clayton County,” said Mark Dose, Executive Director of the Heritage Community Foundation. “We believe this program will have a positive effect on the health of the community at large and encourage young adults in this area make healthy choices regarding sexual behavior”.

The Pregnancy Aid Clinic works to empower individuals and families through medical and educational resources focused on promoting the sanctity of human life. The clinic is nonprofit and provides pregnancy testing and a range of parenting and educational support.

The Rainbow House facility provides temporary shelter for abused, neglected or abandoned children in the area.

The grant will be used acquire and refurbish used musical instruments to be used by middle school band students. The grant award presentation to Henry for Music was hosted by the Henry County Middle School Band Department and was attended by members of the Henry Arts Alliance, the Henry County School Board, and the Board members from the Heritage Community Foundation.

The grant will be used to acquire a commercial grade garden tiller for the community garden. The new tiller will help Community Gardens of Henry County achieve its mission and also increase the non-profit group’s ability to be a food source for needy families in the area.
