Heritage Community Foundation Presents a $3,400 Grant to The Joseph Sams School

Jonesboro, Ga. (September 7, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $3,400 grant to Amy Murray, the Executive Director for The Joseph Sams School in Fayetteville, Georgia on Thursday, September 7, 2017. The grant will be used to support the school’s internationally recognized success with the MOVE program by providing funds to purchase a Rifton Large Dynamic Pacer. This equipment, also known as a “gait-trainer” is a wheeled device that supports a person who is unable to walk independently.

“The Joseph Sams School’s dedication to the education and life-skills development of children with physical, emotional and intellectual challenges is highly regarded by experts in this field,” said Mark Dose, Executive Director of the Heritage Community Foundation. “Their excellent work in helping children with unique physical needs gain more mobility and independence using the MOVE program model has been held out as a ‘Best Practice Standard’ by similar organizations from the west coast to the east coast of the United States and also noted in countries around the world. They are one of 30 model sites for the MOVE program world-wide. The Heritage Community Foundation is pleased and proud to partner with the school to purchase this equipment that will support and expand their capability to help their students.”

The Joseph Sams School was founded in 1984 and is the only fully-accredited school in the state of Georgia that provides educational and therapeutic services for children from birth through 22 years of age who have mild to severe disabilities. In addition to special education services, the students also have access to speech therapy, music therapy, art classes, life-skills and community-based instruction.

(August 18, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $2,000 grant to John Uesseler, the CEO of the Academy for Advanced Studies / The Henry County College and Career Academy on Friday, August 18, 2017. The grant will be used to purchase specialized equipment and resources for their “Culinary Arts” program.

“The Heritage Community Foundation is pleased and proud to partner with the Academy for Advanced Studies to support their fantastic Culinary Arts program,” said Jenny Smith, Board Member and Past Board Chair of the Heritage Community Foundation. “This focused education program is making a huge difference in the lives of students in our area and it is important for the program leadership to have resources to expand and continually improve their program. Fayette CARE Clinic provides a range of healthcare services at no cost for uninsured patients in Fayette County.

Heritage Community Foundation Presents a Grant to GiGi’s House for Computers

Jonesboro, Ga. (May 04, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $2,500 grant to Sabrina Crawford, Founder of GiGi’s House for the purchase of laptop computers for the residents of the new facility. GiGi’s House is dedicated to providing a safe home for girls 13 to 19 years old who are victims of sex trafficking. In addition to a safe faith-based housing environment, GiGi’s House provides educational services, therapy, mentoring life-skills coaching and encouragement to girls victimized by sex trafficking.

Jonesboro, Ga. (June 28, 2017) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $4,000 grant to Jennifer Newman, Administrative Director of Operation Lunchbox., for resources to help feed homeless school-age children over the summer.

“We learned that there are over 1,200 homeless students attending Henry County schools”, said Mark Dose, Executive Director of the Heritage Community Foundation. “Operation Lunchbox provides a significant resource to help feed these children over the summer months when they do not have access to the school system’s breakfast and lunch program. Operation Lunchbox is structured to provide a bag of non-perishable groceries once a week during the 8 weeks of summer break so these students have a routine supply of food to eat. This grant provides resources so they can continue to meet the needs of these homeless children in our area”.

These funds will purchase new computers to help with the facility operations as well as assist those living at the shelter.
